How To Protect Your Appliances From Hard Water?

In this article, we will be discussing how to protect all your appliances that work with water daily. These appliances include washing machines, refrigerators with icemakers or water dispensers, dishwashers, coffee machines, electric kettles, boilers etc. All of these appliances work with water, and if water is not clean enough, those devices will get damaged gradually every time you use them.

So, What’s Wrong With Our Water?

Nothing is wrong with the water. It is a well-known fact that all the water we use is reused after it is drained, which means that the water passes through special treatment plants and becomes purified with the help of chemicals and special technology. After such processes, the water becomes hard. The hard water leaves residues, such as calcium, on all parts of the devices in direct contact with hard water.

How Does Hard Water Affect Appliances?

The most vulnerable parts of appliances are electric inner water valves. The principle of operation of the valve is that when activated, the metal pin inside moves up and opens the channel for the passage of water. Calcium clogs directly above or below the metal pin and prevents the valve opening or closing properly.

If the valve remains open all the time, it will leak, and if it does not open, water will stop flowing into the device. Inside refrigerators, water dispensers, and the icemaker assembly can be damaged if the filters are not replaced in time. It also damages water channels, sensors with rubber membrane type, heating elements, and other significant components inside the units.

It may become an expensive repair, and appliances fail at least twice as fast because of the hard water. So, a preventative solution is a must in this kind of situation.

What Is The Solution?

A water softener system is highly recommended. A big filter container runs across the house’s main water line. Meaning any water that enters your home will be filtered. The system protects your plumbing, appliances, faucets etc. The solution is not cheap, but a one-time installation will last for at least 10 years.

It is also beneficial for people who have problems with dry skin, dandruff, and other conditions caused by the dryness of the environment. It is an excellent long-term investment for any household and is highly recommended by any expert in the appliance repair industry.
